Portfolio backed lending

Access the value in your portfolio without moving custody.

Borrow against your existing investments to meet a need, leveraging your portfolio for a property purchase, a tax bill, or a gift to a family member while your investments stay with Credo.

Available only to high net worth individuals who meet the requirements of Article 60H.

Loans provided by the Lender. Credo acts as a credit broker, not a lender.

The essentials

What is portfolio backed lending?

  • Your assets stay invested. They remain with Credo and are still managed by Credo, while your rights over them are assigned to Firenze as security.
  • Borrow up to a set limit. Firenze lends up to 50% of your portfolio's value - but 100% of the portfolio is held as security for the loan, not 50%.
  • Flexible capital repayment. Draw what you need, repay capital when it suits, and draw again. Interest is paid monthly by direct debit.
  • Interest only on what you draw. You are charged interest on the drawn balance, not the whole facility.
Whole portfolio heldas security: £300k Equities Bonds Cash Maximum loan £150k 50% LTV 50%

You may borrow up to 50% of the portfolio's value, but 100% of the portfolio is assigned as security for the loan.

Important: your whole portfolio is at risk if its value falls - please read Understand the risks.

The lender

Why we introduce clients to Firenze

Traditional Lombard lending has often meant moving your investments to a private bank - transferring custody, disrupting your strategy, and sometimes crystallising tax. With Firenze you can borrow without moving custody: your investments stay with Credo while Firenze provides the loan facility.

Assets stay put

Your investments remain with Credo - no transfer of custody.**

Up to 50% loan-to-value

Firenze lends up to a maximum of 50% of your portfolio's value, subject to status and lending criteria.

Fast & digital

Applications take around 15 minutes, with decisions typically within 24 hours and funds within 72 hours, subject to status.

(**) You will be required to assign rights to the portfolio to the Lender regarding the assets used as security for the loan. Credo introduces clients to Firenze only. We do not search the wider lending market, and other lenders may offer different terms.

The client journey

How it works, step by step

From first conversation to a live facility, here is the path - and who does what at each stage.

1

We assess whether it's appropriate

Your Credo Relationship Manager assesses whether Lombard lending is appropriate for you and explains the risks and the alternatives. Credo does not assess the suitability of the loan. Nothing proceeds without this.

Firenze underwrites and offers

Subject to status and lending criteria, Firenze independently assesses your application and portfolio, sets the loan-to-value, interest rate and terms, and makes you an offer. Credo does not influence the credit decision.

4

You accept, sign and assign

You accept Firenze's offer and sign the loan agreement - including the assignment of your rights over the portfolio to Firenze as security. You pay Firenze's arrangement fee to Firenze, and a Letter of Authority is put in place over the portfolio held at Credo.

Facility goes live - draw down

Once controls are confirmed, the facility is live. You request a drawdown and Firenze disburses the funds - typically within 72 hours of signing.

Ongoing servicing & review

Firenze monitors the facility daily and services it directly through its app, including any margin calls. Credo continues to manage your investments and reviews the arrangement as part of your wider wealth plan.

Staying in control

How Firenze monitors and manages your facility

Firenze monitors the value of your assigned portfolio every day. As markets move, the loan-to-value moves with them - and a staged process keeps you informed before any action is needed.

Business as usual
Your loan-to-value sits below the maintain rate. Draw and repay capital as normal; interest is paid monthly by direct debit.
Early warning
If markets fall and your LTV rises toward the maintain rate, Firenze notifies you early, so you have time to consider your options.
Margin call
A margin call is triggered when the LTV reaches the maintain rate — while your portfolio is still worth more than the loan. Firenze asks you to add further security or repay part of the balance to bring the LTV back down.
Close-out
If no action is taken, or the portfolio falls further, assets may be sold to bring the LTV back down — potentially at a loss and at an inopportune time.

There are three ways to resolve a margin call: repay some or all of the loan, add further assets as security, or sell some investments in the portfolio to raise cash to repay the loan.
